Thank you for visiting ABC’s of Mealtime. My name is Selene Muller, and I’m a registered dietitian. I am currently working at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana where I do a clinical assessments as well as educate parents on specific diets if needed.
Previously, I worked at a WIC clinic where I counseled pregnant and breastfeeding moms. I also educated parents on healthy nutrition for their infants and young kids. As the only RD there, I saw all the high risk patients which ranged from overweight and underweight children to other issues, such as food allergies.
I attended LSU and received my bachelor’s degree in dietetics and a minor in sociology. I then did some weight loss counseling in Hawaii before moving to Houston to complete my dietetic internship. When people ask me why I became a dietitian, my answer is pretty simple. I love food. I love to eat it, to cook it, and to talk about it. Even as a child, I remember having so much fun with my play food in my play kitchen. I now have two boys at home: a four year old and an infant, so I understand the struggles that many parents have with their children. Having children of my own has made me passionate about getting children off to a healthy start. I feel that as parents, we can help them form a healthy base.
My goal for ABC’s of Mealtime is to promote healthy eating for young kids by offering reliable information. I’ll be sharing some tips that I hope many of you can use with your kids. I’m a wannabe cook, and I hope to develop (or revise
) some recipes that I can share with you. I’ll also be discussing some of the nutritional challenges that I face in my day to day life, such as shopping for healthy foods for my family while on a budget. Your comments are always welcome, or you can send me an email at selene@abcsofmealtime.com.

Advocates for Better Children’s Diets is preparing a guide book for child care centers for the DC Department of Health. We would like to use the photo from your blog of applesauce in ice cube tray with the plastic bag marked apples. This guide book will be distributed to the child care providers free under the CDC grant.
Thank you in advance for your permission to use this photo.

Sure, you can use the picture, Nancy! Thanks for asking and for stopping by.
Hi Selene! Awesome blog! My sister-in-law and my best friend are both highly into nutrition and are trying to get me to be more so!! Not sure if you are interested, but my friend actually has a nutrition phone app that makes tracking your own and your kids nutrition really easy. Let me know if you are interested and I can probably get you a free download of it to try! Not sure if it would be useful to your other readers, but seemed from my reading of your blog like something you may be interested in!
Best,
Hillary
Thanks for stopping by, Hillary! I would love to try the app
Sounds great!
Glad I found you! My sister and I struggle to feed out children (and ourselves) healthfully in this crazy over-convenienced world as well!
